Eddie Garza
Campaigns Manager
EddieG@MercyForAnimals.org

Eddie Garza serves as campaigns manager for Mercy For Animals, working closely with education department staff in strategizing and implementing outreach campaigns and projects, creating advertising campaigns across a diverse spectrum of media, including television, print, and Internet, and serving as MFA’s spokesperson in the New York City area.

Eddie is guided by the peaceful teachings of Jivamukti Yoga, finding inspiration in its motto "May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all."

A native of Brownsville, Texas, Eddie studied music education and orchestral performance at the University of North Texas, and taught in the Texas public school system for nearly a decade before dedicating his life to animal advocacy.

It was a trip to Europe in 2003 that opened Eddie's eyes to the ethically and ecologically irresponsible manner in which animals are raised and killed during food production in the Western world. His passion for protecting farmed animals from needless cruelty soon prompted Eddie to adopt a vegan diet, and quickly propelled him into grassroots activism.

Since joining the MFA team, Eddie has organized hundreds of pro-vegetarian outreach events in Texas, New York, and the Northeast, given presentations on compassionate living, effective animal advocacy, “ag-gag” legislation, and other topics at high schools, colleges, and corporate forums, and coordinated signature gathering for a ballot initiative in Ohio—a campaign that resulted in the statewide ban of some of the most inhumane farmed animal confinement systems.

Prior to his role as campaign manager, Eddie served as a senior campaign coordinator with Mercy For Animals. Through recruiting, managing, and training volunteers, interns, and staff, developing cutting-edge and thought-provoking demonstrations across the country, and acting as a media spokesperson to local, national, and international media outlets, Eddie reached millions of people on the plight of farmed animals.

A die-hard foodie, Eddie has a special appreciation for country fried "steak," "meatloaf," and other vegan versions of the food he enjoyed growing up in Texas. Eddie's passion for compassionate cuisine has landed him advice columns and profile stories through a wide variety of media outlets, including NBC, Telemundo, VegNews magazine, Dallas Observer, Dallas Voice, and Our Hen House.
