Director of Development
NikkiB@MercyForAnimals.org

Nikki Bollaert serves as director of development for Mercy For Animals, overseeing the organization’s fundraising strategy and programs. She brings more than 20 years of experience as a fundraising professional to her position.

Passionate about social justice issues, Nikki designed her own major at the University of Colorado, studying development and social change in Central America through the Conflict and Peace Studies program. She went on to complete a master’s in nonprofit management at Regis University in Denver.

Nikki has also earned the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation from CFRE International and the Charted Advisor in Philanthropy from The American College.

Within weeks of college graduation, Nikki began her fundraising career, learning the ropes of nonprofit management and grant writing. As director of development for a local YWCA, her fundraising expertise continued to grow.

Nikki later established her own consulting firm and for over six years counseled seminaries, faith communities, and local nonprofit organizations on development program creation and assessment, and capital campaign planning and management.

Throughout her vast career, Nikki has helped significantly broaden the revenue bases of several animal protection and social service organizations. She has also managed complex, multi-channel fundraising efforts, expanded major gifts teams and programs, and served as a senior leadership team member.

Nikki began her animal activism in elementary school, writing letters to the editor of her local newspaper and participating in letter-writing campaigns against rodeos, baby seal hunts, and the use of animals in circuses. She started her own animal advocacy club, handing out leaflets collected by mail from various animal protection organizations. Nikki also worked at a veterinary clinic throughout her high school years.

Nikki is the proud mom of two amazing and compassionate vegan kids, and her “furry family” includes two dogs, three cats, and a charismatic rabbit named Jerry.
