Director of Corporate Outreach

Reports to: Executive Director

Position Location: Los Angeles, CA

Position Objective:

Work with major food retailers, fast food chains, grocery stores, and other corporations to implement and improve farmed animal welfare policies and bolster cruelty-free food options.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and implement innovation and effective strategies for Mercy For Animals' work with major corporations in order to identify, solicit and leverage meaningful animal welfare policy reforms and more animal-friendly purchasing guidelines
  • Cultivate respectful and cordial relationships with major corporations and key executives and maintain and update Mercy For Animals' corporate contacts in the database
  • Prepare and deliver effective and influential presentations to corporate executives in order to encourage and facilitate meaningful animal welfare policy reforms
  • Develop and implement an effective strategy to encourage national restaurant and grocery chains to add vegan food options
  • Build and maintain relationships with vegan and vegan-friendly companies and secure sponsorship and partnership opportunities
  • Attend and speak at annual shareholder meetings of major retailers of meat, dairy and eggs in order to educate shareholders and to positively influence corporate animal welfare guidelines and purchasing policies
  • Draft shareholder resolutions and supporting statements regarding farmed animal welfare issues within major corporations
  • Research the animal welfare guidelines of major corporations and inform MFA's campaigns and investigations departments of such policies as relevant to their work
  • Serve as a media spokesperson as necessary for MFA's corporate outreach program as well as at national animal rights conferences other relevant venues across the country
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Position Requirements:

  • Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years of previous experience in advocacy, public relations, or corporate affairs
  • Demonstrated ability to comfortably create and deliver presentations, address and overcome objections, and negotiate and close deals
  • The ideal candidate will have a wide range of familiarity with and contacts within the food industry and an ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with key corporate executives
  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and Mercy For Animals campaigns
  • Proven exceptional organizational and writing skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
  • Support for Mercy For Animals philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate Mercy For Animals positions on issues
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
