We hope you'll join us at Firestorm Cafe & Books for some delicious vegan fare and an eclectic selection of books, while supporting the animal advocacy campaigns of Mercy For Animals. Firestorm Cafe & Books, a worker-owned, community-oriented establishment, is joining forces once again with MFA by donating 10% of its total proceeds from both food and book sales on Thursday, August 12 to MFA!

This fundraising event includes a free screening of MFA's award-winning documentary, Fowl Play, at 5:30 p.m.

At 7 p.m., following the film screening, there will be a presentation by Dr. Amy Joy Lanou: Food Fights: Corporate Collusion On Your Plate. Topics to be discussed include opportunities for making a difference in food and nutrition policy in the U.S., such as the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the food pyramid and federal nutrition programs, including the National School Lunch Program.

Join MFA as we set up our public outreach booth at Asheville's 10th annual OrganicFest, which celebrates everything organic and green!

In addition to distributing literature promoting the compassionate, eco-friendly vegan lifestyle, we will be offering mouth-watering free vegan food samples sure to be a hit with the crowds in attendance.

Enthusiastic volunteers are needed to staff the booth, so please email Kayla or call 828.231.6859, if you would like to help.

OrganicFest, one of the nation's largest regional organic festivals, will celebrate National Organic Harvest month. The festival is a special environmental project of the Imagine Center, a local non-profit dedicated to promoting organics through educational and fun events. Enjoy a fun-filled day of organic food and beverages, live music, drawings for organic goods and gift certificates, organic and green vendors, and natural arts and crafts. Environmental organizations will share information and provide help with organic living, organic gardening, organic farming and earth-friendly living. Fun activities for kids include the OrganicFest Kids Garden Parade at 1 p.m.
