Mercy For Animals Internship/Volunteer Campaign Assistant Program: Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of work will I be doing as an intern or campaign assistant?
Activities include vegan outreach, such as leafleting and Paid-Per-View screenings, exhibiting at various festivals, and social media advocacy. Outreach interns and campaign assistants will also draft blog posts, letters to the editor and op-ed pieces, and handle other tasks and projects as assigned by supervisor.
Responsibilities and projects vary depending on skill level and experience. MFA works to pair individuals with projects that fully utilize their talents.
What is the deadline for submitting applications?
We accept applications year-round. However, application materials should be submitted at least one month prior to the date on which you would like to begin your internship.
How long is the time commitment?
We require a minimum of a one-month commitment. Maximum length is based on performance and number of other applications we receive.
What are the age requirements?
Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
What qualifications must I have?
The best qualification is a desire to work hard for the animals. You do not need any particular educational or work background.
Does MFA offer school credit?
Yes. Your school should provide you with its specific requirements for receiving credit. If you are seeking school credit, your official position title will be Intern.
If no school credit is sought, your official position title will be Campaign Assistant. Job responsibilities and living arrangements are the same regardless of your position title.
Will training opportunities be offered?
MFA will provide training relating to MFA's mission and overall activities as well as extensive training for all work required as part of our program.
How many hours a week will I work?
Full-time applicants are scheduled for 40 hours each week. Part-time applicants are scheduled for 20 hours each week. As we have many weekend events, some workdays may fall on weekends. Schedules will vary slightly according to planned activities.
What about housing?
MFA housing is available only to those working as interns or campaign assistants in our Los Angeles office. It is reserved for full-time applicants who do not live locally. If you do not qualify for MFA housing, or there is no space available, we may be able to assist you in finding housing.
Is there a dress code?
At MFA we strive to present a professional image. We ask that you dress neatly while representing MFA publicly at protests or while exhibiting.
Do I have to be vegan?
You do not have to be vegan to intern or volunteer with MFA, although we ask that you not use or consume animal products in the MFA offices, at MFA events, or in MFA housing.
Will an internship/volunteer position help me get a future job in animal rights?
This is a great way to experience what a career in animal rights or the nonprofit sector would be like and to gain the skills necessary for your success!
