MFA Year In Review

2006 marked another truly successful and groundbreaking year in Mercy For Animals' work to end animal cruelty wherever it is found. In our effort to create a culture where all animals are treated with the respect and compassion they deserve, in the past year MFA:

  • Began airing our latest pro-vegetarian commercial on MTV. The powerful spot has reached tens of thousands of viewers, giving them a shocking glimpse behind the closed doors of factory farms and encouraging them to make compassionate food choices.
  • Conducted over 170 public outreach events, including lectures by our humane educators at high schools and colleges, video showings, educational exhibits at festivals and conferences, vegan feed-ins, and leafleting outreach on busy street corners, outside concerts, and on campuses.
  • Distributed over 160,000 pieces of vegetarian literature.
  • Expanded ChooseVeg.com, our popular pro-vegetarian website, to include dozens of streaming videos featuring doctors, chefs and undercover investigation footage. Since its launch in April, the site has attracted over 50,000 visitors and received more than 305,000 page views.
  • Expanded our library outreach program by working with libraries to erect our new thought-provoking "Making Humane Food Choices" display.
  • Launched the Vegetarian-Friendly Illinois Campaign and VegIllinois.com website - giving Illinois residents the tools they need to shop and eat cruelty-free.
  • Spoke out against the fur industry by placing over 100 new anti-fur advertisements on Chicago subways – reaching 2 million riders. MFA activists also staged headline-grabbing demonstrations in Chicago, Illinois and Cleveland, Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus, Ohio.
  • Was named "Non-Profit of the Year" by VegNews magazine.

These efforts are truly saving lives. Nearly every day MFA hears from individuals, couples, and families who have encountered one of our volunteers face-to-face, picked up a piece of our literature, heard one of our humane educators speak, or viewed one of our exhibits. They are forever changed.
