Actor Leonardo DiCaprio Invests in Vegan Milk Brand Califia Farms

Actor and die-hard activist Leonardo DiCaprio recently invested in hit plant-based milk brand Califia Farms.

DiCaprio is the latest Hollywood heavyweight to invest in the vegan milk company, joining Karlie Kloss, Tyler Hubbard, and Brian Kelley. The recent funding round brought in more than $50 million, which Califia Farms said would be used to expand manufacturing in Bakersfield, California, as well as promote the launch of its new line of probiotic vegan yogurt drinks.

Greg Steltenpohl, CEO and co-founder of Califia Farms, said:
This round of funding will allow us to further pursue our vision to be the leading plant-powered food and beverage company of the future by investing in our four brand pillars of sustainability, health and wellness, plant-based innovation and engaging consumer experiences.
This isn’t the first time DiCaprio has put his money where his mouth is. Last year the award-winning actor made an undisclosed investment in the vegan company Beyond Meat. But that’s not all—he also made a minority equity investment in vegan snack company HIPPEAS last year.

DiCaprio is a longtime environmentalist and animal advocate who isn’t afraid to speak out against the negative environmental effects of factory farming. The actor said, “Shifting from animal meat to the plant-based meats developed by Beyond Meat is one of the most powerful measures someone can take to reduce their impact on our climate.”

Additionally, in 2014 the Oscar winner produced Cowspiracy, a documentary exploring the environmental impacts of animal agriculture. He has long advocated protecting our planet from climate change.

Investing in a vegan food company is certainly a good financial move. A study commissioned by the Plant Based Foods Association and The Good Food Institute revealed that the plant-based foods market had topped $3.1 billion in sales, and according to market research firm Global Data, veganism in America increased by 600 percent between 2014 and 2017.

For the billions of animals suffering at factory farms, it’s great news that vegan food is all the rage. Pigs, cows, chickens, and other farmed animals face unimaginable cruelties: extreme confinement; brutal mutilations; and bloody, violent deaths.
