AMAZING: MFA Supporter to Bikepack More Than 2,700 Miles to Raise Awareness

Update: Carrie Thompson has returned from her awe-inspiring bike ride to raise money and awareness for MFA’s undercover investigators. The ride from Banff, Canada, all the way to Antelope Wells, New Mexico, took her 67 days. Along the way, Carrie met another MFA supporter and vegan activist, Tim Magrath, who had never even camped before this trip! Tim is almost done with his ride but faces much more adversity than your average cycler: Due to narrowed joint space, the bones in his back are rubbing together! Carrie has titled the undaunted Tim “most enthusiastic.” Both Tim and Carrie are finishing up their fundraising and you can support each here and here. Thank you, Tim and Carrie, for being such wonderful animal advocates!

Inspired by Mercy For Animals’ undercover investigations, ethical vegan Carrie Thompson will bikepack the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route.

More than 2,750 miles, this route is one of the world’s longest off-pavement trails. Running from Banff, Alberta, to Antelope Wells, New Mexico, it crosses the divide 32 times with more than 200,000 feet of elevation gain. This is the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest nine times. Carrie intends to ride for two to three months, starting July 2016.

Her trip is inspired by her love for animals. She aims to help expose the needless suffering of the billions of land and sea animals killed every year for food worldwide. “I want to help raise awareness of their existence so they and their by-products stop ending up on a plate, she says.

Carrie will document her trip via Twitter and Instagram.

Carrie’s goal is to raise $25,000 for MFA’s undercover work. You can help by donating here.
