Asia’s Richest Man Invests in Vegan Foods (Again)

Sarah Von Alt December 15, 2014
Earlier this year, Hampton Creek, the company behind Just Mayo,
received a $23 million contribution from Li Ka-shing, the richest man in Asia. “Everyone
wants a clean and sustainable world and we love that Hampton Creek is committed
to that goal – egg by egg,” explained Ka-shing.
The billionaire business magnate is at it again, and this
time he’s part of a $75 million investment in U.S. food science company
Impossible Foods, which works to create
vegan meats, including a vegan cheeseburger, from vegetables.
According to Want
China Times
, “The founder of Impossible Foods Patrick Brown, a Stanford
University biologist and physician, said the vegan cheeseburger is made of 100%
natural, vegetarian ingredients. The menu contains more protein, iron and vitamins
than regular cheeseburgers and is cholesterol free.
As the popularity of vegan foods grows, private investors
are throwing millions into food start-ups like Impossible Foods, and more
and more delicious options are
hitting store
shelves
all the time.
