According to Memphis
Meats, the venture capital arm of Tyson Foods has invested
an undisclosed amount in the clean meat company.
Tyson, the largest meat producer in the U.S. and the largest
chicken producer in the world, is the second major meat producer to back the
company. The first was Cargill, which made history last year with its landmark
investment. Tyson joins not only Cargill but billionaire
philanthropists Bill Gates and Richard Branson and leading venture capital firm DFJ, which had previously invested in
Tesla, SpaceX, and Skype.
Memphis Meats is known for creating real beef burgers made
without cows and the world’s first chicken and duck meat made
without animal slaughter.
In a press release, Dr. Uma Valeti, co-founder and CEO of Memphis Meats, said:
We are excited that Tyson Foods will be joining us in our mission to bring meat to the table in a sustainable, affordable and delicious way. Our vision is for the world to eat what it loves, in a way that addresses today’s challenges for the environment, animal welfare and public health. We are accelerating our work and building out a world-class team to make this a reality.
Those of us who have switched to a plant-based diet know
that vegan foods are incredibly satisfying. The fact remains, however, that
most people still eat meat, so these clean meat products can provide a humane, sustainable, and affordable alternative.
We wholeheartedly believe that this could completely transform the way the world eats and spare billions of animals a lifetime of suffering.
This isn’t the first time Tyson has invested in a
slaughter-free future. In 2016, the company invested in vegan meat company Beyond Meat for a 5 percent stake. What’s more, last year Tyson
Foods CEO Tom Hayes said, “Plant-based protein is growing almost, at this
point, a little faster than animal-based, so I think the migration may continue
in that direction.
Animals raised and killed for food are treated as mere
objects, and their short lives are filled with violence and pain. Cows, pigs,
and chickens are subjected to a nightmare of confinement, mutilation, torture,
and slaughter.
Don’t believe us? See for yourself.
Fortunately, Memphis Meats’ innovative products will change
all this. People will enjoy meat without contributing to horrific suffering.

to start helping animals. Join the millions of people who have switched to
