Grubhub Reports Vegan Takeout Up 20 Percent

Grubhub, one of the nation’s largest food delivery services, and Meatless Monday, the global initiative from The Monday Campaigns, have announced the results of Grubhub’s recent analysis of meatless orders. The steady increase in vegan takeout orders showcases the rise in popularity of vegan foods.

According to the report, since 2016 meat substitutes have been ordered 5 percent more on Mondays than on any other day of the week. Also, jackfruit orders on Mondays have increased 33 percent. Overall, vegan orders increased by 19 percent in 2017.

“With so many vegetarian dishes gaining popularity, it is easy to see that choosing meat-free meals is not just a trend, said Barbara Martin Coppola, CMO of Grubhub. “Grubhub provides an easy way for people to make the food choices that make them feel healthiest and happiest, at their convenience. For many, this includes ordering plant-based food!

Leading hospitality consulting firm Baum + Whiteman recently published its 2018 Food & Beverage Forecast, which expects vegan food to be a megatrend of the coming year. And the research firm Global Data reports that veganism in America has increased by 600 percent since 2014.

Veganism is taking over, which is great news for the countless animals who suffer horribly at factory farms. Cows, pigs, and chickens raised and killed for food are just as smart and sensitive as the dogs and cats we adore at home. But at factory farms, animals are subjected to unimaginable cruelties: intensive confinement, agonizing mutilations, and violent deaths.
