Race Car Driver Lewis Hamilton Credits Vegan Diet for Victory at U.S. Grand Prix

According to City A.M., British driver Lewis Hamilton credits his vegan diet for his recent win at the United States Grand Prix and believes it will help him earn a fourth Formula One title.

The Mercedes racer is convinced that his success this season is due to his improved health, which he attributes to going vegan nearly two months ago.

In the interview, Hamilton said:
I feel the best I’ve ever felt physically and mentally. All year I’ve felt very strong mentally but I think physically I’m now taking also a big step and that’s really the decision I made to change my diet. The best decision was obviously moving to this team; the second best was changing my diet.
Hamilton’s decision to go vegan midseason at the Singapore Grand Prix generated skepticism, but the driver has proven his critics wrong by winning three of four races and finishing second in the other.

Eating a vegan diet is one of the best ways to stay healthy. Experts have discovered that a plant-based diet reduces one’s risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. And many claim that it helps increase focus and stamina. What’s more, researchers at the Mayo Clinic have found that long-term vegetarians live on average 3.6 years longer than their meat-eating counterparts.

Hamilton joins a long list of athletes who’ve reaped the benefits of a vegan diet. Tennis champ Serena Williams, driver Leilani Münter, NFL player David Carter, bodybuilder and strongman competitor Patrik Baboumian, and others have thrived on a nutritious plant-based diet.

But eating plant-based foods isn’t just great for your health; it also protects the planet and spares many farmed animals a life of torture.

Pigs, cows, and chickens at factory farms are treated as mere objects. Their short lives are filled with misery and pain. They’re subjected to extreme confinement; barbaric mutilations; and bloody, violent deaths.
