New research
reveals that a whopping one in eight British adults now follows a vegetarian or
vegan diet.
While 12 percent of the total population has decided to
ditch meat, that percentage jumps to 20 for people between the ages of 16 and
24. And that’s not all: millions more in the UK are “flexitarians and have dramatically
cut back on their meat consumption.
This has resulted in a booming market for meat-free products
that brought in more than £625 million last year and is expected to grow another £30 million this year.
Additionally, market research firm Mintel estimates that 12
percent of all new food and beverage products in the UK will carry a “suitable
for vegetarians label, compared to just 6 percent in 2009.
No matter what side of the Atlantic you’re on, there’s never
