Canadian Transport Requirements
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency recently updated the Health of Animals Regulations regarding humane transportation. Mercy For Animals drafted recommendations for these regulations that aligned with animal welfare science and the standards of Canada’s trading partners.
Despite this painstaking effort and our tireless advocacy, the government failed to go far enough in its revisions. Now the National Farm Animal Care Council is updating the transportation code, and we will continue to advocate mandatory science-based standards aligned with those of Canada’s trading partners. This website contains resources that explain the scientific basis for improving animal transportation in Canada.
