Throughout history, women have spearheaded countless social justice movements, especially the animal rights movement. Today is International Women’s Day and the Day Without a Woman strike, a day for celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
Mercy For Animals has been highlighting fierce vegan women activists every day on our social networks in honor of Women’s History Month. But we are also incredibly proud to join the millions of individuals and organizations around the world spotlighting the power and significance of women in the U.S. and global economies.
To show our support for the Day Without a Woman strike and the International Women’s Day marches, we are granting our staff an additional paid day off to participate. MFA is honored to stand in solidarity with those striking for gender justice. We encourage other organizations to do the same. We are also grateful to work alongside some of the most passionate and dedicated women in the animal rights movement.
At the heart of MFA is the belief that all sentient beings deserve to be treated with dignity, equality, and respect, regardless of gender identity, race, sexual orientation, religion, country of origin, or—of course—species.
Heartbreakingly, we have much more work to do to achieve a just and equitable world. Indeed, women worldwide are often less secure in their jobs, are paid less than male counterparts, and suffer sexual harassment and discrimination in their everyday lives.
We will never stop fighting for equality for all.
