Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio has made an undisclosed investment in the vegan company Beyond Meat.
According to VegNews, Ethan Brown, CEO of Beyond Meat, said:
I am thrilled to officially welcome Leonardo DiCaprio to the Beyond Meat family. His investment and role as an advocate reflects a shared vision that meat made directly from plants, like our Beyond Burger, has enormous benefits for human health, the climate, natural resources, and animal welfare.
Brown revealed that DiCaprio was involved in the development of the company’s revolutionary Beyond Burger.
DiCaprio is a longtime environmentalist and animal advocate who isn’t afraid to speak out against the negative environmental effects of factory farming. The actor said, “Shifting from animal meat to the plant-based meats developed by Beyond Meat is one of the most powerful measures someone can take to reduce their impact on our climate.”
This isn’t the first time DiCaprio has used his star power and his wallet to support veganism. Earlier this year, DiCaprio made a minority equity investment in the vegan snack company HIPPEAS.
Additionally, in 2014 the Oscar winner produced Cowspiracy, a documentary exploring the environmental impacts of animal agriculture. He has long advocated protecting our planet from climate change.
Investing in a vegan food company is certainly a good financial move. According to Lux Research, plant-based proteins are expected to make up a third of the protein market by 2054.
But investing in a vegan company isn’t only economically and ecologically smart; it’s also great for the billions of animals suffering at factory farms. Pigs, cows, chickens, and other farmed animals face unimaginable cruelties: extreme confinement; brutal mutilations; and bloody, violent deaths.
