Factory Farms Stink

4099652852_354654f036_b.jpgA recent Mother Jones article highlights some of the serious environmental justice issues surrounding pig factory farms.

According to the article, a couple of attorneys are “taking on some of the meat industry’s biggest players and winning big damages for their clients. They do it by zeroing in on the industry’s Achilles’ heel: stink.”

And the duo has won millions in settlements in nine states, working to “protect people from the powerful stench that can deprive them of their right to use and enjoy their own property.”

Waste from factory farms pollutes air, contaminates streams and rivers, jeopardizes our water supply, and lowers the quality of life for families who live nearby.

And humans aren’t the only ones who suffer. Environmental degradation goes hand-in-hand with animal abuse on factory farms, with billions of animals suffering in extreme confinement and filthy living conditions each year.

Luckily, knowledgeable consumers can easily safeguard their health, and protect their neighbors and the planet, all while helping to prevent needless cruelty to animals by transitioning to a plant-based diet.
