5 Reasons Eating Chicken Is Gross AF

Joe Loria May 26, 2016
Salmonella
Got diarrhea? Well, if you contract salmonella, you’ll have
plenty of it. Salmonella sickens more than 1 million people each year and
results in more hospitalizations and deaths than any other foodborne illness.
According to the USDA, around 25 percent of cut-up chicken meat
and about 50 percent of all ground chicken sold in stores is contaminated
with salmonella.
Filthy Conditions
A recent Mercy For Animals undercover investigation at a Tyson
Foods
chicken farm showed despicable conditions. From puddles of chicken
waste to rotting animal carcasses, chicken factory farms are truly disgusting.
It’s Killing the
Planet
Driving a Prius or taking shorter showers isn’t enough to
save the planet. Environment America reports that Tyson, the largest poultry
producer in the world, is responsible for dumping more toxic pollution into our waterways than companies
like ExxonMobil and Dow Chemical. Go green, go vegan!
It’s Full of Sh*t

Chicken meat is literally full of sh*t. In 2011, the USDA
reported that 90 percent of defects discovered in chicken carcasses at
slaughter plants involved “visible fecal contamination that was missed by
company employees.”
Exploited Workers
From being forced to wear diapers because they’re denied
bathroom breaks
to losing
limbs
, workers on chicken farms are treated appallingly. In fact, farm
worker advocate Cesar Chavez was vegetarian because he knew the animal
agricultural industry mistreated workers.
Thankfully, you can enjoy the taste of chicken without the
horror and cruelty by choosing one of these
delicious plant-based alternatives!

Well, a new book aims to debunk the myth that humans were designed to eat meat. Marta Zaraska’s Meathooked: The History and Science of Our 2.5-Million-Year Obsession with Meat […]

Ag-Gag FAIL: Idaho Ordered to Pay $250 Thousand in Legal Fees
