AMAZING! MFA’s Brazil Food Policy Program Will Serve 5 Million Vegan Meals Each Year

Recently, Mercy For Animals’ Brazil food policy program, Alimentação Consciente Brasil (Conscious Eating Brazil), has had major successes that will promote health and sustainability and will have a big impact on the lives of farmed animals.

Three Brazilian cities, Cuiaba, Varzea Grande, and Sao Goncalo, all publicly committed to MFA’s food policy program. This initiative will create 5 million vegan meals a year that would otherwise contain animal products. This breaks down to around 140,000 plant-based meals each week.

In Varzea Grande and Sao Goncalo, both the second-largest cities in their states, officials committed to serving entirely plant-based foods one day a week in city-run public schools. In Cuiaba, the capital and largest city in Mato Grosso, officials committed to serving entirely plant-based foods one day a week in both city-run public schools and city-run social assistance programs.

Once implemented, MFA’s food policy program in these cities will spare 110,000 animals per year from a lifetime of suffering at factory farms.

Animals raised and killed for food are just as smart and sensitive as dogs and cats. But at factory farms, cows, pigs, and chickens are subjected to unimaginable cruelty, including extreme confinement; brutal mutilations; and bloody, violent deaths.
