Since the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee lifted its
recommendation to limit cholesterol intake, many have considered going back to
eating eggs and bacon, according
to a recent article in The New York Times.
But beware—these foods are still bad for you.
“Research shows that animal protein may significantly
increase the risk of premature mortality from all causes, among them
cardiovascular disease, cancer, and Type 2 diabetes, the Times reports. “Heavy consumption of saturated fat and trans fats
may double the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
In addition, eating meat caused a 75 percent increase in
“premature deaths from all causes, a study from last March found. The study
also observed that people under 65 whose diets consisted of just 20 percent
animal protein were four times more likely to die from cancer and Type 2 diabetes.
Factory farms cause countless
animals to suffer, and they are bad for the environment. On top of that,
health ramifications show that there is no upside to consuming meat.
Fortunately, with myriad cruelty-free options readily available, ditching meat
is a no-brainer.
