FOCUS Brands Announces Broiler Chicken Welfare Policy

Emily Slome July 28, 2017
Today FOCUS Brands, parent company of Moe’s, Schlotzsky’s, McAlister’s Deli, Cinnabon, Carvel, and Auntie Anne’s, joined a rapidly growing list of companies that have made public commitments to improved welfare standards for the chickens in their supply chains. FOCUS Brands’ announcement follows discussions with Mercy For Animals.
FOCUS Brands is a leading operator of multiple fast-casual restaurant chains. The company’s pledge will reduce suffering for countless broiler chickens by prohibiting some of the most horrendous animal cruelty. Improvements FOCUS Brands will require its suppliers to make include transitioning to breeds with higher welfare outcomes, enhancing litter and light quality, and ending live-shackle slaughter. FOCUS Brands has also committed to using third-party auditors to ensure compliance. These improvements will be implemented by 2024.
We hope that this commitment from FOCUS Brands, along with commitments from Burger KingChipotlePanera BreadStarbucks, and other major companies, will encourage chains such as Wendy’s to follow suit. Click here to sign our petition urging Wendy’s to adopt a comprehensive chicken welfare policy!
As always, the best way for individual consumers to help end this cruelty is to leave animals off their plates.
