Hannah Bugga November 12, 2019
Burger King’s Impossible Whopper is officially a huge success. A third-quarter earnings report reveals that the plant-based burger drove 5 percent of Burger King’s comparable sales in the United States, the brand’s strongest growth since 2015. According to Restaurant Brands International CEO Jose Cil, the Impossible Whopper was one of the most successful rollouts in Burger King’s history!
Cil said the Impossible Whopper brought in a variety of new customers, ranging from younger people looking for more-sustainable food options to older generations coming in specifically to try the vegan patty. Early analytics even show Burger King’s traffic increasing by 2 percent compared with McDonald’s since the Impossible Burger’s nationwide launch.
Burger King expects demand for plant-based options to grow and has begun expanding its vegan options outside the United States as well. The plant-based Rebel Whopper and Rebel Chicken King debuted in Sweden over the summer, and the company is looking into exciting plant-based options for Latin America and Asia.
The fast-food giant is following a growing trend toward plant-based eating. Recently, Denny’s and the U.S. Air Force both added vegan Beyond Burger patties to their menus, while United Airlines is “focusing heavily on expanding its plant-based options. Even Monster Energy is getting in on the action, launching a completely dairy-free oat milk energy drink and throwing a vegan party to celebrate!
With plant-based dishes popping up on menus far and wide, there’s truly never been a better time to enjoy more vegan meals. Get delicious recipes and easy meal ideas with a FREE Vegetarian Starter Guide today.
