“Mad cow disease,” or Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, has claimed the life of a Texas man, raising the total known number of people in the U.S. killed by the disease to four.
All four cases of mad cow in the U.S. are believed to have originated overseas. This latest American victim was a man who “traveled extensively” to Europe, where there have been 220 confirmed cases of mad cow.
