Mercy For Animals Exposes Horrific Cruelty to Cows

Anna Pippus October 10, 2012

DairyCow.jpgA brand-new investigation released by Mercy For Animals in the US reveals shocking cruelty to cows at Bettencourt Dairies, an enormous Idaho dairy facility with 60,000 cows. Bettencourt Dairies supplies Burger King.

MFA’s undercover investigator documented:

  • Workers and management viciously beating, kicking, punching, and shocking
cows and violently twisting their tails in order to deliberately inflict pain
  • Workers and management dragging a downed cow by her neck using a chain
    attached to a tractor
  • Extremely unsafe and unsanitary conditions, including feces-covered floors that
cause cows to regularly slip, fall, and injure themselves
  • Sick or injured cows suffering from open wounds, broken bones, and infected
udders left to suffer without proper veterinary care

Criminal animal cruelty charges have been filed against three of the workers.

Animal cruelty is the norm in an industry that has become too fast paced and too low skilled. Each time MFA sends an investigator into a randomly selected facility, animal cruelty is documented. Nathan Runkle, MFA’s founder and executive director, stated that, “Across the country this is actually our fourth dairy industry
investigation that we’ve done and every single one of those
investigations has led to animal cruelty charges being filed.”

The best way for consumers to show compassion for these animals is to opt out of consuming dairy altogether. Fortunately, with a wide variety of accessible alternatives to familiar dairy products, this is easy to do.
