We have experienced incredible growth
lately and have expanded beyond North America into Latin America, India, and
China. During late May and early June, I was lucky enough to spend two weeks in
Brazil developing MFA’s effective advocacy resources and ensuring
volunteers have the knowledge, equipment, and tools to be the most effective
advocates they can be.

This amazing tour took our Brazilian communications coordinator, Lucas
Alvarenga, and me to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Curitiba, Balneário, Florianópolis,
and Porto Alegre. Along the way I met so many new volunteers who couldn’t
wait to get started helping animals. Many had already taken on leadership roles
in their cities and states. We had so many great meetings, training sessions,
and leafleting events, reaching thousands of Brazilians with our message of
compassion.

Another highlight was being interviewed, along with singer Alana
Rox, about MFA’s work in Brazil by Entrevista-se. Rox is also known in Brazil as The

Then there was the food. Every city I visited offered fantastic vegan options, from restaurants to all-vegan stores like Veg Veg in
Curitiba. My favorite? Probably the vegan coxinhas, which consist of shredded
plant-based meat covered in fried dough. Did I put on a little weight in
Brazil? Yes!

While there is still much work to be done in Brazil, MFA is off
to a great start and I couldn’t be prouder of the work everyone is doing there.
