About 4,200 pigs suffered the unimaginable torture of burning alive when a barn in Alberta caught fire, destroying a 743-square meter barn.

Fire Chief Todd Gustafson noted, “Unfortunately when you’ve got a tin building like that – both sides as well as the roof – it’s a great way to keep the elements out, but unfortunately it’s also is a great way of keeping the heat inside the building.”

According to one of the barn managers, the barn mainly contained mother pigs and their babies.

Even without being burned to death, life on farms is hell for pigs. Most mother pigs are kept in cruel gestation crates, tiny metal cages in which they can’t even turn around or lie down comfortably.
