New Campaign Takes Aim at Dairy’s Darkest Secret

Joe Loria November 4, 2016
A new Mercy For Animals online petition exposes the sickening secret the dairy industry doesn’t want you to know: Baby calves are ripped away from their mothers.
On farms that supply milk to Dairy Farmers of America, a national milk marketing cooperative representing 15,000 dairy farmers, cows are subjected to artificial insemination, a highly invasive and stressful procedure. Once pregnant, a cow’s gestation period is nine months, just like a human’s.
But when cows on dairies give birth, the real tragedy begins. Baby calves are dragged away from their moms just hours after being born. Mother cows have been known to wail all night in desperation after their babies have been taken away.
These baby calves are fed anemia-inducing diets and sold for veal, while the moms are treated as mere milk-producing machines.
Ripping babies away from their moms just after birth is animal cruelty that no company with morals should support.
Watch.
Heartbreaking, right?
You can help put an end to this cruelty. Sign our petition urging Dairy Farmers of America CEO Rick Smith to stop permitting dairy farmers to take baby calves away from their mothers.
In the meantime, you can withdraw your financial support of farmers who routinely abuse animals by adopting a healthy and humane vegan diet.
