Mercy For Animals Announces New Leadership as Organization Enters Next Chapter of Impact

Ronnika A. McFall, APR November 20, 2025

Mercy For Animals is entering its next phase of growth with a renewed sense of purpose, focusing on collaboration, strategic clarity and a forward-looking vision for farmed animals. This moment marks an evolution for the organization, shaped by years of learning, progress and a deepening commitment to creating a kinder food system. As part of this transition, Mercy For Animals is undertaking a leadership change and refining its strategy to strengthen its long-term impact and continue moving this movement forward.

After more than seven years of service, Leah Garcés’ tenure with Mercy For Animals has come to a close. The organization is deeply grateful for her commitment to farmed animals.

In alignment with our board and leadership team, Arash Yomtobian, who joined Mercy For Animals as president earlier this year, will now serve in the unified role of president and chief executive officer. Arash is a forward-looking leader known for building strong partnerships, navigating complex challenges and guiding organizations through meaningful periods of growth. With his steady leadership and shared commitment to our mission, he will help guide Mercy For Animals into its next phase of focus, innovation and impact.

“Leah has been a transformational force for Mercy For Animals and for our movement,” said Neysa Colizzi, Chair of the Board of Directors. “As we look ahead, Arash brings the strategic discipline, steadiness, and commitment to this mission that will allow Mercy For Animals to build on this momentum to deepen and broaden its impact for farmed animals globally.”

As we move into this next phase, we are centering our efforts on the programs and strategies that deliver the strongest results for animals. This means aligning our structure and resources with the work that has the greatest potential to create meaningful and lasting change. These decisions are thoughtful and intentional and reflect our responsibility to build a strong and enduring organization, one prepared to strengthen its influence, deepen key relationships and accelerate the progress needed to transform food systems worldwide.

“It is an honor to lead Mercy For Animals into its next chapter,” said Arash Yomtobian, President and CEO. “Together, we are turning compassion into action. Every farmed animal deserves a chance to be free from suffering. At Mercy For Animals, we’re charting a bold path forward — driven by courageous choices, collaborative spirit, and a relentless commitment to delivering results for animals who need us most.”

Through this transition, our mission remains steady. Our core priorities continue, our values remain strong, and our commitment to farmed animals is unwavering. With unified leadership and a more focused strategy, Mercy For Animals is well-positioned for the work ahead.

We are grateful for the journey that brought us here. We now look forward with a clear purpose to advancing a more compassionate and sustainable food system and building a future where all animals are treated with dignity and respect.
