Outreach Report: Sowing Seeds of Compassion in the Windy City

Nathan Runkle August 19, 2011

MFA volunteers brought a message of mercy and compassion to thousands of people in the greater Chicagoland area this weekend, raising awareness about the plights of farmed animals and the many benefits of healthy, cruelty-free eating.

VeggieFest6015.jpgAfter setting up educational exhibits at Veggie Fest, one of the world’s largest vegetarian festivals, as well as at the packed Northalsted Market Days in Lakeview Chicago, volunteers talked to hundreds of veg-curious festival-goers about transitioning to a healthy and humane vegan lifestyle, while thousands of people eagerly picked up free copies of MFA’s Vegetarian Starter Kit, Vegetarian Guide to Chicago and 25 Reasons to Try Vegetarian brochure.

VeggieFest6088.jpgAttendees were also treated to free samples of SO Delicious vegan ice cream and offered an opportunity to earn a dollar by watching a 4-minute segment of MFA’s powerful new documentary Farm to Fridge. After trying delicious vegan treats and bearing witness to the cruelties inherent in raising and killing animals for food during the “Paid-Per-View” screenings, many participants were moved to begin exploring veganism.
