Statement from Mercy For Animals Regarding Scott Socha’s Appointment to Lead National Parks Service

Jennifer Behr February 20, 2026

The following statement regarding Scott Socha’s appointment and plant-based dining in national parks may be attributed to Jennifer Behr, Director of Plant-Based Initiatives at Mercy For Animals:

Scott Socha has recently been appointed to lead the National Park Service, overseeing some of America’s most iconic natural spaces. Yet, Delaware North, where Mr. Socha has held leadership positions for decades, has not made a public commitment to plant-based dining — even though other national park operators are already working to achieve 50% plant-based offerings. If other national park concessionaires can implement measurable plant-based goals for millions of visitors, there is no reason Delaware North cannot follow suit. Leadership in sustainability means setting a clear example, and we hope Mr. Socha will prioritize the progress already being made in the parks he will now oversee.
