Statement on the Expiration of the Farm Bill

Leah Garcés September 30, 2023

The following statement regarding the expiration of the 2018 Farm Bill may be attributed to Leah Garcés, CEO and president of Mercy For Animals.

“The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 lacks protection for those who need it most: farmed animals and everyone trapped in the cruel clutches of industrial animal agriculture. It is imperative that Congress pass the 2023 Farm Bill and put our nation’s food system on a more compassionate, just, and sustainable trajectory. Mercy For Animals has made its priorities known and urges Congress to include provisions from the Industrial Agriculture Accountability Act and the Farm System Reform Act. We call on Congress to protect those most at risk through the swift passage of a Farm Bill that serves the desperate needs of animals and people.”
