1. Dehorning
Farmers burn or saw off the horns of cattle
without anesthetics.

2. Battery Cages
With floor space smaller than a sheet of letter-size paper,
egg-laying hens spend their entire lives crammed into tiny wire cages. Unable
even to spread their wings, these hens live one to two years until they are
considered “spent and sent off to slaughter.

3. Teeth Clipping
Factory farmers rip out the piglets’ sharp incisor teeth
without the use of painkillers.

4. Tail Docking
This involves cutting through the sensitive skin, nerves,
and bones of calves’ tails without any painkillers. This unnecessary and
inhumane practice is condemned by animal welfare experts.

5. Castration
Shortly after birth, male piglets are castrated with a blade or scalpel and no
painkillers. Farmers rip out the testicles with their hands.

6. Debeaking
The egg and poultry industries painfully cut off the tips of birds’ beaks,
usually with a hot blade.

7. Gestation Crates
So narrow that sows are unable to turn around, gestation
crates have been widely denounced as one of the cruelest factory farming
practices in the world. In fact, gestation crates are so inhumane they have
been banned in nine U.S. states.

8. Macerators
Since male chicks will never lay eggs and don’t grow quickly
enough to be raised profitably for meat, they’re killed within hours of
hatching. These young animals are often ground up alive in macerators.

9. Flame Clipping
Once a year dairy farmers use a propane torch to singe the hair
around cows’ udders.

10. Thumping
Piglets who are too sick or aren’t growing fast enough are
killed by being slammed headfirst onto concrete floors.

Animals on factory farms suffer hellish lives of mutilation,
extreme confinement, and constant abuse. They endure all of this only to be
killed in a slaughterhouse.
You can help end this needless cruelty by switching to a
compassionate vegan diet.
