The Science Is in: Vegetarianism Helps Lower Blood Pressure

measuring-blood-pressure.jpgA recent article by the “LA Times” highlights the benefits of a vegetarian diet in preventing high blood pressure, noting that about a third of Americans suffer with this condition.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, along with researchers in Japan, reviewed 39 studies, and the science has never been more clear: a vegetarian diet can not only prevent high blood pressure, but “could be an alternative to drugs for people whose blood pressure is too high.” This condition, known as hypertension, is “a risk factor for heart disease and other problems.”

Not only is a vegetarian diet good for your heart, it can improve your mood, prevent cancer, and protect animals from abuse and neglect on today’s factory farms.
