Tofurky Turns 20!

Ari Solomon November 18, 2014
Just in time for Thanksgiving, the Los Angeles Times reports that beloved company Tofurky is
celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Famous for its delicious vegetarian roast, the company has
seen a lot of growth over the past two decades and now offers meatless
deli-style slices, pizzas, and even hot pockets.
Seth Tibbot, Tofurky’s founder, had this to say about the
original inspiration for the company:

I’d always gather for Thanksgiving with a
group of friends. A lot of them were vegetarian, and we were just messing
around with stuff, trying to figure out what to eat. Sometimes we’d have like a
stuffed pumpkin, which was pretty good, but it wasn’t like this sort of high
protein, exciting thing that we wanted it to be.

Thus, the original vegetarian roast was born.
Nowadays, people who want to skip animal products in favor
of a humane vegan holiday meal have a plethora of options to choose from.
