Vegetarians have 32% less risk of heart disease!

According to the British Heart Foundation, a study recently
published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that vegetarians
are up to 32% less likely than meat eaters to suffer from hospitalization or death
due to heart disease.

This exhaustive study covered 44,500 people in England and
Scotland and demonstrated that the health benefits of a vegetarian diet
included lower levels of bad cholesterol, lower blood pressure and healthy body
weight levels.

As we all know too well, heart disease is a major killer in
the industrialized Western countries. Cardiovascular diseases kill one Canadian
every 7 minutes and accounted for 29% of all deaths in 2008. Heart disease is
the leading cause of death in Canada and costs the economy approximately $21 billion
a year.

But as with any type of diet, it is important to make sure
we eat balanced, nutritious and varied foods – such as fruit, vegetables, whole
grains, pulses, nuts – and avoid too much saturated fat and salt.

a healthy plant-based diet, which will not only benefit your heart but all the
farmed animals as well, please visit ChooseVeg.ca.
