7 Factory Farming Practices Straight out of a Horror Film

Sarah Von Alt October 22, 2014
1. Extreme Confinement

Animals on factory farms are kept in cramped, disease-ridden
conditions, and many will not see the sun until they are on their way to the
slaughterhouse.
2. Macerators (Grinding
Machines)

Because male chicks don’t lay eggs, and do not grow quickly
enough to be raised profitably for meat, they are killed within hours after
hatching.

3. Teeth Clipping, Tail Docking, De-horning, and Castration

Mutilations without painkillers are standard practice on modern farms.

4. Force-Feeding

Ducks raised for foie gras undergo routine force-feedings, with farm workers shoving metal pipes down their throats multiple times a day to induce a diseased, fatty liver.
5. Thumping

Piglets who are too sick, or who are not growing fast
enough, are killed by being slammed headfirst on concrete floors. This is
considered an acceptable form of “euthanasia by the industry.
6. Rape Racks

In the dairy industry, cows are forcibly impregnated in what
the industry refers to as a “rape rack” and then kept in a constant
cycle of pregnancy and lactation.
7. Slaughter

Slaughtering an animal is inherently violent, horribly
bloody, and always completely unnecessary.
