American Diabetes Association Names Vegan Diet as a Way to Fight Type 2 Diabetes

Joe Loria December 20, 2017
According to LiveKindly,
the American Diabetes Association has included a vegan diet as a way to mitigate
the onset and effects of Type 2 diabetes in its 2018 Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes.
The nation’s leading diabetes group also notes that doctors and nutritionists
should always provide “education on lifestyle management.
It’s not surprising that the American Diabetes Association
now advocates a vegan diet. A recent study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that a person had
about a one-in-three
chance of developing Type 2 diabetes by eating red meat
.
Additionally, a study by the Harvard School of Public
Health found that a daily 100-gram serving of unprocessed red meat increased the
risk of Type 2 diabetes by 19 percent
. A daily 50-gram serving of processed
meat increased the risk by 51 percent. To put this into perspective, two slices
of bacon are about 50 grams. Let that sink in for a minute.
But if you have Type 2 diabetes, there is hope! After
consulting with doctors and nutritionists, Brooklyn borough president Eric L. Adams switched to a vegan diet and
has since reversed his diabetes
.
Not only is adopting
a vegan diet better for your health
; it’s also the best way to help countless animals who suffer at factory farms every day.
