DEVASTATING: Cow Jumps off Export Ship to Save His Own Life, Dies of Exhaustion

Joe Loria February 14, 2018
During the loading of an export
ship in Australia, a cow made a run for it by leaping
off the side of the ship
. The cow swam all night, trying to make it to
shore. But sadly, as a group of canoeists attempted to assist the animal the
next morning, he passed away from exhaustion.
Canoeist Pam Roberts said in an
interview:

We went around to
help because we had a bigger boat. We had a couple of people get in the water
as well. They put a life jacket around the cow and a rope to try to bring it in
but I think it was at the point of exhaustion. It was extremely sad.

This is the second time in two years
that an animal has jumped off a live export ship to save his or her own
life.
In 2016, a cow trying to escape his
inevitable fate leapt
from a live export ship in Western Australia
. According to the “rescue
team, the animal made it to the shore where he evaded capture and later died,
also from exhaustion.
Billions of cows, pigs, chickens,
and fish are violently killed for food every year. Many go to great lengths to escape their cruel fates. And
despite being just
as sensitive and intelligent as the dogs and cats
we know and love, farmed
animals are relegated to unimaginable torment
: brutal handling, torturous
mutilations, and life behind cage bars.
The truth is, no animal wants to die to become your food.
If this story touches you but
you’re still consuming animal products, it’s time you aligned your food choices
with your values. Choose compassion and leave cows and all other animals off
your plate. Click here to get started. And check out

Proposed Law Would FORCE Grocers to Sell Eggs From Caged Hens

Time and again, factory farm lobbyists have opposed commonsense animal protection laws by saying “let the market decide. Now that the market is deciding, these lobbyists are changing their tune. In the past few years, over 100 leading grocery chains, including Costco, Hy-Vee, Target, and Walmart, have all pledged to stop selling eggs from chickens […]

More Than 700 Million Chickens Killed for Super Bowl Sunday

When most people think about Super Bowl Sunday, they picture sports jerseys and clever advertisements, but I don’t. Nope. I think about the more than 700 million chickens who were raised and killed for their thighs and wings. Super Bowl Sunday is the second-largest day for U.S. food consumption after Thanksgiving. Essentially, the Super Bowl […]
