Hell on Earth: Poultry Farms Shut Off Ventilation, Birds Die of Suffocation

Sarah Von Alt January 27, 2016
Avian flu is back in the news.
Just last week, the USDA confirmed the presence of H7N8, a
highly pathogenic strain of avian flu, at a commercial turkey farm in Indiana.
This is the first case since last year’s outbreak, which claimed the lives of
50 million animals.
Now, a new article by Motherboard
reports:

Nearly half a million turkeys and
chickens were killed this week in Indiana after contracting a new strain of
avian influenza called H7N8. This is a necessary step to stop the spread of the
disease, but the methods used to kill some of the birds have drawn some
criticism.

Nearly half a million birds have been killed to stop the
spread of the disease, an undisclosed number of them by ventilation shutdown.
Ventilation shutdown is exactly what it sounds like: farmers
turn off the ventilation systems and water supplies in their barns and wait for
the birds to slowly suffocate or overheat.
This hellish method of “euthanasia is beyond inhumane and
makes it even clearer that the chicken industry puts profits before animal
welfare.
Luckily, we can all take a stand for food safety and animals
by leaving meat, eggs, and dairy off our plates for good.
