Here Are 5 Ways Ditching Meat Might Just Save Your Life

Sarah Von Alt March 9, 2016
A new study has revealed the effect of diet on
prostate cancer risk.
“Researchers from Loma Linda University in California found
that men who followed a vegan diet had a ‘statistically
significant protective association,’ with a
35% reduced risk of developing the disease, Daily
Mail
explains.
According to the CDC, more than
27,000 people in the United States die from prostate cancer each year, making
this new information about prevention vital.
But this study is just one of the most recent in a long line
of studies confirming the vast health benefits of a meat-free diet.
Here are four other ways skipping meat can
protect your health:
Stave Off Heart
Disease
Heart disease is the number one killer in the U.S.
Fortunately, a study published in the American
Journal of Clinical Nutrition
shows that vegetarians are up
to 32 percent less likely than meat eaters

to suffer from hospitalization or death due to heart disease.
Prevent Diabetes
In 2013, researchers from Harvard found that an increase in
red meat consumption is directly related to an increased
risk of diabetes
. Just a year later, another
study
found that a vegan diet could help stabilize blood sugar levels and even
reverse the disease
.
Cut Stroke Risk
Researchers at McGill University and McMaster University
have indicated that study participants who consumed the most fruits and veggies
were 30
percent
less likely
to experience a stroke.
Live Longer
According to a report published in Men’s
Journal
, a large-scale study of 73,000 Americans shows that eating a
vegetarian diet promotes longevity. Study participants who followed a plant-based
diet had an early mortality rate 20 percent
lower than study participants who consumed meat!
Research continues to prove
that a nutritious plant-based diet is beneficial for your health. A vegan diet
is a win-win situation: You get to
live a longer, healthier life while letting farmed animals live their lives.
