JUST Partners With Europe’s Largest Egg Producer to Bring New Plant-Based Egg Overseas

Joe Loria July 23, 2018
According to a recent blog post from Josh Tetrick, co-founder and
CEO of JUST, the vegan company is partnering with Europe’s largest egg producer,
Eurovo, to bring its new plant-based egg to the region.
Eurovo has large-scale operations in Italy,
Spain, France, Poland, and Romania. The partnership aims to produce and
distribute the vegan product to Europeans.
The vegan egg will be marketed and sold alongside Eurovo’s
conventional egg brands and will be available for chefs and foodservice professionals.
Tetrick wrote on Medium:
All along, I’ve said
that we alone can’t fulfill our mission of helping everyone eat well. We need
partners to work with us to achieve our goal of building a just food system.
That’s why I’m proud to share the news that JUST has entered into an agreement
in principle with the Italian headquartered Eurovo Group, a leading European
producer and distributor of packaged, pasteurized and dried eggs, to bring our
award-winning plant-based scramble to consumers across Europe.
Recently, vegan fast-food chain Veggie Grill added a breakfast burrito using
JUST’s new egg to its menu. Made from mung beans, the alternative looks and
scrambles up like traditional eggs but without the cholesterol, horrific animal suffering, and other problems
associated with consuming animal products.
At today’s egg factory farms, birds are kept in
deplorable conditions. Confined in battery cages, hens exploited for eggs are
each given less floor space than the size of an iPad to live out their lives.
They never breathe fresh air or feel grass beneath their feet. Instead, they
live in filthy warehouses, trapped inside cold, barren cages.
Additionally, hens are mutilated without
painkillers. When they are just a few days old, they have their sensitive beaks
seared off with a hot blade. What’s more, because male chicks can’t lay eggs
and won’t grow quickly enough to be raised profitably for meat, they are often
killed within hours of hatching. Some are ground up alive while others are
gassed or suffocated.
After two years of torment, when their egg
production slows down, hens are sent to a merciless slaughter.

Fortunately, JUST’s innovative product will
change all this. People can enjoy
the texture and flavor of eggs
without contributing to horrific
suffering.
