Ten-Year Study Concludes Fish Oil Supplements Are Bogus

Joe Loria July 23, 2018
Omega-3 fish oil supplements are often pedaled
for their supposed health benefits, but a study by Cochrane researchers found
that claims
of such benefits are bogus
.
According to the BBC, researchers looked at
trials involving more than 100,000 people over 10 years and concluded that the
chance of getting any meaningful benefit from omega-3 fish oil supplements is
one in 1,000.
Cochrane’s lead author, Dr. Lee Hooper, from
the University of East Anglia explains:
The review provides
good evidence that taking long-chain omega-3 [fish oil, EPA or DHA] supplements
does not benefit heart health or reduce our risk of stroke or death from any
cause. The most trustworthy studies consistently showed little or no effect of
long-chain omega-3 fats on cardiovascular health.
Like chicken and pork, fish and other seafood
are devoid of fiber and loaded with saturated fat and
cholesterol
. So what about omega-3? Fortunately, you don’t need to
eat fish to obtain omega-3 fats. Instead, you can get them where the fish do—from plants.
Take it from Professor Tim Chico, a
cardiologist from Sheffield University, who said, “Such supplements come with a
significant cost, so my advice to anyone buying them in the hope that they
reduce the risk of heart disease, I’d advise them to spend their money on
vegetables instead.”
But eating fish isn’t just unhealthy; it’s
also unspeakably cruel. Fish factory farms are filthy and overcrowded, making
them perfect breeding grounds for parasites. Last year an outbreak of sea lice stretched from
Scandinavia to Chile. Now nearly half of Scotland’s salmon farms are infested
with the parasite, which feeds on blood, skin, and slime.
What’s more, according to a study in the Journal of Experimental Biology, salmon
bred and raised at fish factory farms grow at such an accelerated rate that more than half go partially deaf. Another
study found that many farmed salmon suffer from severe depression.
Known as “drop outs, depressed salmon float lifelessly.
In 2011 Mercy For Animals conducted an
undercover investigation at a fish slaughter facility and exposed
fish being skinned alive
. They thrashed and fought to escape the
workers’ knives. As the fish gasped for oxygen, workers ripped off their skin
with pliers.
Sounds horrifying, right? See for yourself.
The best thing we can do to remove our support
from the cruel fishing industry is to leave seafood off our plates and switch
to a healthy and
compassionate vegan diet
