Now, Los Angeles city council member Paul Koretz is looking
to raise the bar even higher by introducing
a proposal that would require LA’s movie theaters, sports venues, and
behemoth international airport to serve vegan food. If LA adopts the proposal, it
will be the first city in the country to impose such a measure. And, to be
clear, we’re not talking about salad or bananas or whatever. The measure
specifies offering vegan protein options.

Koretz told
Variety: “There’s really no
downside to it. The change could easily be made in any venue. A movie theater
serves hot dogs. They can serve vegan hot dogs. It’s easy.”

We couldn’t agree more! In fact, LA’s Dodger Stadium already
offers
a ton of vegan options, from Vietnamese rice and noodles to vegan nachos
and pretzels. And LAX boasts
an outpost for one of LA’s most famed vegan restaurants, Real Food Daily,
in terminal four (the proposal would require vegan food in ALL terminals).

By mandating that these venues offer vegan food, LA would
send a strong message that veganism is something all Angelenos should embrace.
It would also be a major convenience for the millions of people there (and
those who visit) who eschew animal products. More importantly though, this
measure has the potential to reduce
carbon emissions, improve
public health, and spare countless animals a life of misery.
