After a successful
trial, McDonald’s has announced that its new McVegan will become a
permanent menu item in Finland and Sweden by the end of the month.
McDonald’s partnered with Anamma to create the delicious
soy-based patty. The Swedish brand says it’s working to prove to McDonald’s
and the fast-food chain’s customers that eating plant-based is easy and
delicious.
According to LiveKindly.co, Anamma’s
marketing manager Nina Sandstrӧm has concluded that “it’s time for people to
step up and reduce the environmental impact that they are having on the planet,
and “vegan burgers are just one way of doing this.
McDonald’s is just the latest fast-food joint to offer vegan
fare. Bareburger,
Umami Burger,
and Momofuku
Nishi offer the Impossible
Burger; TGI
Fridays is rolling out the Beyond Burger; Yard
House offers Gardein meat substitutes; and Pizza
Hut recently started offering Violife cheese at select U.K. locations.
More vegan options at restaurants is a sign of the times. The
research firm Global Data reports that veganism in America has increased by 600 percent since 2014,
and Allied Market Research predicts that the meat substitute market will grow 8.4 percent over
the next three years, potentially reaching $5.2 billion globally by 2020.
Furthermore, a study commissioned by the Plant Based
Foods Association and The Good Food Institute revealed that the plant-based foods market had topped $3.1 billion in sales.
And Lux Research expects plant-based proteins to make up a third of the global protein market by 2054.
The growing popularity of a vegan diet is great news for the
billions of animals who suffer horribly at factory farms. Cows, pigs, and
chickens raised and killed for food are subjected to unthinkable cruelties:
tiny, filthy cages; burns and amputations; and merciless slaughter.
See for yourself.
Thankfully, by switching to a compassionate vegan diet you
