Microsoft is Serving Up Suffering

Hannah Neumann April 29, 2026

Microsoft has revolutionized how we work and continues to tackle global challenges through technology, building a brand synonymous with innovation and responsibility. But in the cafeterias of this global “leader,” a hidden reality is unfolding that belongs in the past, not the future.

Microsoft’s foodservice provider, Eurest—a subsidiary of Compass Group USA—continues to source chicken from birds bred to suffer. While Microsoft claims to look toward tomorrow, their  food supplier’s supply chain relies on one of the cruelest practices in factory farming.

The Heavy Price of Rapid Growth

The chickens raised by Compass Group’s suppliers are selectively bred to grow so explosively fast and large that their own bodies become a source of constant pain.Imagine a life where your muscles grow faster than your bones can support. For millions of birds, this is their daily agony. Because of this rapid growth, many chickens experience skeletal deformities that leave them unable to walk or even stand under their own weight. This industrialized suffering is a far cry from the “better future” Microsoft claims to be building. When one of the world’s most influential companies overlooks such profound cruelty in their own backyard, it slows the progress we all want to see.

Microsoft: Ctrl Alt Delete Cruelty

Microsoft has a responsibility to hold their supplier accountable. They can help reduce suffering for millions of animals by demanding that Eurest and Compass Group USA accelerate the implementation of their chicken welfare commitments.

Chickens Need You to Take Action!  Chickens trapped in a cycle of exploitation need us to advocate for them! Your voice can be the catalyst that pushes Microsoft to choose compassion over cruelty by demanding better from the foodservice giant. Please take a few minutes to leave a comment on Microsoft’s social media posts demanding that they address the animal welfare failure of their foodservice provider.
