Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, family and community. As such, more and more people are celebrating the holiday over a compassionate, cruelty-free meal.
Recognizing the rise in veg eating, major mainstream media, including CNN, “Cosmopolitan,” “The New York Times,” “Reader’s Digest,” and many more, are featuring delicious, cruelty-free Thanksgiving recipes and meal ideas. In fact, “The New York Times” has even started a Vegetarian Thanksgiving recipe database, with over 600 veg recipes to please your holiday palate.
MFA has released our own vegan holiday recipe guide on ChooseVeg.com, including printable recipes for stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, and pumpkin pie, as well as delicious prepared entrée suggestions from Field Roast, Gardein and Tofurky.
Sadly, about 40 million turkeys won’t have anything to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. MFA’s undercover investigations of Butterball–the largest turkey producer in the country–have revealed horrific cruelty, including factory farm workers kicking and stomping on birds, and turkeys left to suffer from serious untreated open sores and injuries. A product of such abuse has no place on a holiday table intended for giving thanks.
Thankfully, we can all do our part to help turkeys by enjoying a delectable and humane holiday meal, and sharing it with family and friends. We can invite them over for dinner or share photos of our holiday feasts! For more ways to help turkeys this Thanksgiving, check out these Thanksgiving activism tips.
