A new piece by TIME is
highlighting yet another reason to ditch meat: You’ll save money!
According to the article, “It turns out skipping animal
protein doesn’t just add years to your life: New research suggests vegetarians
can save at least $750 more than meat-eaters per year. This figure even takes
into account “splurge items such as olive oil instead of cheaper canola oil.

of Hunger & Environmental Nutrition, the study compared two meal plans:
one was a government-recommended meat-based meal plan and the other a
comparable vegan meal plan.
The vegan meal plan not only cost less—about $15 less per
week—but also contained more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains than the
meat-based plan, giving it more of a nutritional punch.
These findings should come as no surprise, as some of the
most affordable foods on the planet are vegan, including rice, beans, legumes,
pasta, and all kinds of fruits and veggies.
Here are a few tips to get the most bang for your buck:
1. Stick With Staples
Buying whole foods, such as fruits, veggies, grains, and
beans, will help you stay on budget. Buy them in bulk to really save!

and Veggies
Stock up with large bags of frozen fruits and veggies.
They’re cheap and last exponentially longer!

Consider cooking in big batches on the weekend. Leftovers
