Rescued Dairy Cow Remembers Stolen Babies, Hides Calf

Though it may seem obvious, many people have no idea that in order to produce milk, cows have to be pregnant or have just given birth. Just like all other mammals, cows lactate in order to produce milk for their babies.

On dairy farms, cows are routinely separated from their newborn calves only hours after they’re born so farmers can take their milk. This is one of the many ways in which the dairy industry is so incredibly cruel.

Clarabelle, a rescued cow living at Edgar’s Mission, a sanctuary in Australia, arrived at the sanctuary pregnant and gave birth in secret. Haunted by memories from her time on a dairy farm, Clarabelle hid her calf in a new hiding spot every day so she wouldn’t be taken by humans.
