Beyond Burger Outselling “Grass-Fed Beef Burger by 40 Percent at Luna Grill

According to VegNews, restaurant chain Luna Grill recently reported that the Beyond Burger was outselling their “grass-fed beef burger by 40 percent.

The chain, with 47 locations in Southern California and Texas, added the Beyond Burger to their menu in April after customers—including meat eaters—expressed interest in more meat-free options.

But this isn’t the first time the Beyond Burger has outperformed its animal-based counterparts. Earlier this year, Forbes reported that when sold alongside traditional burgers, the plant-based burger often outsells them. Ethan Brown, CEO of Beyond Meat, the creator of the vegan patty, said that at some stores of a major conventional retailer, the Beyond Burger was the “number-one-selling beef patty in the meat case.

In fact, the vegan burger has been so successful that Beyond Meat has opened a second facility to keep up with demand. Because of the burger’s success in the United States and Hong Kong, the company plans to expand to 50 countries worldwide after increasing their production capacity.

The Beyond Burger has also been making its way into more popular restaurant chains. Since the beginning of 2018, TGI Fridays has offered the Beyond Burger at their more than 465 locations nationwide, and more recently the burger landed on the menu of major fast-food chain A&W in Canada.

With vegan foods becoming more and more accessible, it’s never been easier to ditch animal products. According to GlobalData, there were six times as many vegans in America in 2017 as in 2014, and Allied Market Research predicts that the meat substitute market will grow 8.4 percent from 2015, potentially reaching $5.2 billion globally by 2020.

More people enjoying vegan food is great news for the billions of animals who suffer horribly at factory farms. Cows, pigs, and chickens raised and killed for food are subjected to unthinkable cruelties: tiny, filthy cages; burns and amputations; and merciless slaughter.

You can join the growing number of people who are taking a stand for animals, the environment, and their own health by switching to a vegan diet.
