Bird Flu Detected at Tyson Farm

Joe Loria March 7, 2017
According to CNBC, a strain of bird flu was discovered on a Tyson chicken farm in Tennessee.
Government and company officials said on Sunday that 73,500 birds would be culled to stop the virus from entering the food system. The USDA confirmed that this is the first case of highly pathogenic H7 avian influenza (HPAI) in commercial poultry in the United States this year and the first time HPAI has been found in Tennessee.
The farm, along with approximately 30 other chicken farms within a 6.2-mile radius, has been placed under quarantine.
According to Reuters, senior World Health Organization official David Nabarro said, “For me the threat from avian influenza is the most serious (to public health), because you never know when.
The truth is that disease is almost certain to spread if birds and other animals continue to be bred in massive, filthy factory farms where they are stressed and abused. And many zoonotic diseases can jump the species barrier.
Mercy For Animals has gone undercover not once or twice, but four times at Tyson chicken farms. Each time we’ve exposed birds living in sickening conditions. Our investigators have documented birds bred to grow so fast they are crippled by their own unnatural weight and chickens crammed by the thousands into dirty, windowless sheds forced to live in their own waste.
Watch.
The best way to prevent animal cruelty and spread of disease is to boycott this disgusting industry. Switching to a compassionate vegan diet is easy, healthy, and delicious.
